This is impossible to answer without knowing the skills or the tools of the homeowner. Many appliances require special parts and special tools. And some appliances are downright dangerous. Any appliance requiring repair that uses natural gas is best left to a professional. You don’t want to have a gas leak or spark an explosion.
Also, microwaves have capacitors which novices should not be touching, lest you electrocute yourself. Microwave capacitors can store a hefty charge even when they are unplugged.
Repair Now or Later
Regarding the question of does the appliance need to be repaired now or later, one consideration is that since the COVID-19 disaster and the subsequent interruptions with shipping, it is not always easy to get the appliance you want when you want it.
So, now, more than ever, it is advisable to be prudent in repairing your appliances. Because if your appliance suddenly stops working, then you could wait a long time for the new one of your choice unless you are willing to settle for what is currently in stock.
The question of whether you should get the appliance repaired is best answered by how important is the appliance to you? Can you manage if it stops working, and you can’t get another one right away? You may be able to live without a dishwasher more easily than living without a washing machine.

Then check around and find out what other appliances are in stock nearby.
