Appliance Installation is a tricky business; there are a great deal of moving parts involved, and mistakes can often cause damage or worse. In today’s blog we will be looking at some appliance installation horror stories from around the web.

Microwave Mistakes

A consumer had purchased a new over the stove microwave from a major retailer and paid for installation. The initial installation seemed to go fine, being completed in a matter of minutes, but after the installers had left the consumer attempted to use the microwave only for it to make a loud noise and cease function. When the consumer called the retailer once more to have the broken microwave removed the uninstallers discovered that the microwave had been improperly and forcibly installed into the housing, causing damage to the consumers’ home and was just barely being held in place by a few small screws risking further damage.

Gas Range Regrets

A consumer ordered a new gas range from a major retailer known for outsourcing their installations to poor quality installers. The range was delivered and installed rather quickly by the installers, around 20 minutes according to the consumer. At first the range seemed to work just fine but after some time had passed the consumer smelled gas in their kitchen. After a call to their gas company, it was discovered that the installers had damaged the gas connection and the shutoff valve during their hasty installation which required expensive repairs at the consumer’s own expense.

Washing Machine Woes

This horror story is about an installer who attempted a washing machine installation beyond their expertise. The consumer had ordered new appliances after moving into a new house with each appliance being delivered and installed by different people. The appliances in question were a washer and a dryer. The installer who was to install the washing machine noticed a rusty connection and recommended that the consumer contact a plumber as it was beyond the expertise of the installer. Later in the day a second installer who came to install the dryer insisted they had the expertise to install the washer as well, but this resulted in damage to the connection and flooding of the house. This eventually resulted in the basement being flooded and the upper floor collapsing due to water damage.
