The benefit to your home is that you draw less electricity and/or water than you would otherwise. This means that there is less load on electrical circuits, and you may not need to compete for water when you want to take a shower while you are running a dishwasher.

Whenever we use less energy to power our homes, everyone benefits. The less energy and water that we use the better it is for everyone else—and the environment. Energy prices are based on supply and demand. If enough people “demand” less energy, this can force prices down. Power plants will not have to work as hard and will be less polluting.
