Open kitchens as well as open-concept homes are currently very popular. They give a home an airy feel and make it easy to move from room to room and also to see what is happening in other rooms. However, if a kitchen is open to other parts of the house, how do you make the kitchen with everyone else? In this article, we will give you some tips.

Style

Style is the first point to consider. If you have a house that has an overall rustic flavour, then an ultra-modern kitchen may not be the best bet. Try, as much as possible, to have your kitchen be in the same style as the rest of the home.

Colour

If you have certain dominant colours that are seen throughout the house, they can be repeated in the kitchen. They have be repeated in more or less permanent ways. For example, if you use a lot of red in the house, a black and white kitchen backsplash could have a few odd tiles of red thrown in. One wall could be painted red. Or you could just use some red accents in the kitchen like a red stand mixer that lives on the counter or upholstered kitchen chairs that have red in the print.

Repetition

Some of the principles of interior design include harmony and balance. By repeating in your kitchen any elements, textures, or colours, you will be add to the harmony and balance of the whole house. You can use some of the same light fixtures, for example, or even door pulls that are similar to some in a nearby bathroom.

An open kitchen is wonderful, and if you use accents in the kitchen to go with the rest of your house, it will be easy to change the accents to modify or update your design scheme as time goes by. The more temporary the accents are, the easier they will be to change at a later date. So, it’s much easier and cheaper to repaint one wall in the kitchen than it is to change all the counters.
